Maryland Vehicle Registration Fees Calculator& DMV Fee Breakdown
Vehicle Information
Note: Values depend on official state valuation models.
Calculations are estimates. Maryland's excise tax (effectively its version of sales tax) increased from 6.0% to 6.5%, and the title fee doubled from $100 to $200, both effective July 1, 2025 under HB 352. Maryland does not charge any local sales tax or annual ad valorem property tax anywhere in the state -- registration and excise tax rates are uniform statewide, so your county does not change your total. A $640 minimum taxable value applies (yielding a $41.60 minimum excise tax), and family transfers between qualifying relatives (spouse, parent, child, grandchild, grandparent, sibling, or in-law) are fully exempt from excise tax.

Family Transfer Exemption: If a vehicle already titled in Maryland is given (not sold) to a spouse, parent, child, grandchild, grandparent, sibling, or in-law, the transfer is completely exempt from the 6.5% excise tax -- a potentially large savings compared to a sale to the same person.
⚠️ Tax Warning
The NADA Floor: The MVA won't calculate excise tax on a purchase price below $640, and for private-party sales, it uses whichever is HIGHER between your stated price and the NADA Clean Retail book value -- you can't report an unusually low price to reduce your tax bill.
