TagCalc was built to solve a massive headache: figuring out exactly how much it costs to register a vehicle or transfer a title in the United States.

State DMV websites are notoriously confusing, and many states charge hidden Ad Valorem property taxes, local county fees, and EV surcharges that catch buyers off guard.

Our goal is to provide the most accurate, programmatic, and easy-to-use directory of DMV fee calculators on the internet.

How We Verify Our Data

Every state's fee structure on this site, base registration fees, Ad Valorem tax formulas, EV surcharges, county rates, is checked directly against official sources: state Department of Revenue and DMV pages, published statutes, and government fee schedules. Where sources conflict or a figure can't be independently confirmed, we say so, rather than presenting an unverified guess as fact.

Rules and rates change, sometimes without much notice, so we periodically review and update each state's data as new legislation or fee changes take effect.

Who's Behind This

TagCalc is built and maintained by Michael, a frontend engineer focused on making government fee information genuinely usable, instead of buried across dozens of confusing state websites.

TagCalc is an independent, privately operated resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any state DMV, Department of Revenue, or other government agency, our calculators provide unofficial estimates to help you plan ahead, not a substitute for your local DMV's final figure.
