Arizona Vehicle Registration Cost Calculator& DMV Fee Breakdown
Vehicle Information
Note: Values depend on official state valuation models.
Calculations are estimates. The Vehicle License Tax (VLT) is legally based on the vehicle's ORIGINAL MSRP and its age, not its current market value -- this calculator treats the 'Estimated Value' you enter as a stand-in for the already-depreciated assessed value, since it does not currently collect MSRP or model year separately. Arizona is unique in that PRIVATE-PARTY vehicle sales pay NO sales tax (TPT) at all -- only dealer purchases are taxed. The 'New Purchase' toggle here assumes a dealer sale; private-party buyers should expect a lower real total than shown. A vehicle registered for 2 or 5 years only pays a one-year registration and air quality fee for the entire period, but VLT is still assessed annually within that term.
Standard Registration Fees
Base Tag Fee

County millage rates shown below are county-wide averages for illustration. Actual rates vary by city and school district within a county — confirm your exact rate with your local License Commissioner or Revenue Commissioner before budgeting an exact amount.
Penalty Note: Arizona has no grace period. A late fee is assessed if not renewed by the due date. The initial late fee is $8.00, plus an additional $4.00 for each month it is overdue, not to exceed $100.00 total.

AZ MVD Now Advantage: Online transactions via AZ MVD Now carry the exact same fees as in-person visits. However, all tabs and documents are mailed -- they are no longer available over-the-counter at MVD offices, so ensure your address is updated before renewing.
⚠️ Tax Warning
VLT Calculation Trap: Arizona uses the original MSRP (base retail price) to calculate VLT, not what you paid for the car. A high-MSRP vehicle will carry a high VLT even if you bought it used for a fraction of the original price.
