Georgia Vehicle Registration Fees Calculator& DMV Fee Breakdown
Vehicle Information
Note: Values depend on official state valuation models.
Calculations are estimates. Georgia utilizes the Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) system. TAVT replaced standard auto sales tax and annual property taxes for vehicles purchased or brought into the state after March 1, 2013. Tax calculations are based on the state's internal fair market value database, not necessarily your bill of sale.
Standard Registration Fees
Base Tag Fee
$20.00
Title Transfer
$18.00
EV Annual Fee
$238.59
Penalty Note: Georgia registrations expire strictly on the primary owner's birthday. Renewing your tag late triggers a penalty equal to 10% of the Ad Valorem tax due (minimum $5) plus 25% of the license plate registration fee. For casual private sales, failing to transfer a title and pay TAVT within 30 days triggers an immediate 10% penalty on the TAVT due, plus 1% for each additional month delayed.

The Birthday Expiration Rule: Unlike states that renew based on when you bought the car, Georgia registrations expire exactly on the primary owner's birthday. If you purchase or transfer a car a month before your birthday, you will have to pay the $20 renewal fee again almost immediately.
⚠️ Tax Warning
Dealer Invoice vs. State Assessment: For TAVT calculations, the state does not care if you got an incredible deal from a private seller. The 7% or 3% tax is strictly calculated using the state Department of Revenue's internal 'fair market value' appraisal database. If the book says it's worth $20,000, you are taxed on $20,000.
