Who Can Choose the 3-Year Option

Not every vehicle qualifies. You're eligible for 3-year registration as long as:

• Your vehicle's gross weight is under 55,000 lbs
• Your vehicle isn't registered under the International Registration Plan (IRP)
• You're not paying an uninsured motorist fee

One important restriction: if your vehicle is garaged in a Northern Virginia locality subject to mandatory emissions testing (Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford counties, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, or Manassas Park), the 3-year option may not be available.
